Geothermal leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC), through its BINHI project, aims to save and preserve more endangered premium Philippine tree species. EDC has signed a partnership commitment with multiple Cebu organizations to propagate these species in Cebu. The partnerships were made official during the signing of the partnership agreement during the second Philippine Environment Summit held last February 22, 2018 in Waterfront Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City. Present during the signing were (from left to right) Mr. Dann Diez, head of SEED4Com, Rev. Fr. Dionisio Miranda, President of the University of San Carlos, Rev. Fr. Murphy Sarsonas, Chairman of the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Environmental Concern, Mr. Philip Neri Estocada, President of the Rotary Club of Mandaue East, Mr. Ricky Carandang, EDC Vice President for Corporate Affairs, Ms. Brenete Abrenica, Chairman of the Cebu Academe Network, Dr. Florence Avecitas, Chair of the Department of Biology in the University of the Philippines Cebu, Ms. Lesly Magalso, head of the Community Involvement Department of St. Theresa’s College Cebu, and Ms. Jasmine See, board member of Let’s Do It! Philippines. Under the partnership, EDC has agreed to provide seedlings of these native tree species, scientific information, and technical assistance, while these institutions shall commit an area for the planting of these trees and to conduct maintenance and monitoring of the planted trees.
