Outer bark yellowish to reddish, smooth during the early sapling stage, turning scaly as it increases the diameter
Leaves simple, alternate, whorled at branched tip, narrow-ovate, smooth, 7.5-15 x 2-4 cm, pinnately veined, acute base, acuminate apex
Flowers white, clustered, three to seven together; calyx tubes short and downy with fine short lobes; petals 5; stamens in bundles of 5
Fruit loculicidal capsule; 3-parted; seed usually winged.
