low and medium altitude
ASSOCIATED VEGETATION: In molave type of forest, associated with Afzelia rhomboidea, Sindora supa, Instia bijuga, Albizia acle, Pterocarpus indicus and Kingiodendron alternifolium; in molave type forest on non-limestone substrate - Vitex parviflora, Instia bijuga, Heritiera sylvatica, Pterocarpus indicus, Toona calantas, Albizia acle, Wrightia pubescens ssp. laniti, Lagerstroemia piriformis, Pterocymbium tinctorium, Pterospermum diversifolium, and Maranthes corymbosa (Fernando et al., 2008).
In forest at low and medium altitudes and limestone ridges.
SOWING. Sow seeds in seedbeds containing garden soil with varying type of amendments such as sand and compost or garden soil alone. Spacing - 2-10 cm between rows and 2-5 cm within rows. TRANSPLANTING ANMD CARE OF SEEDLING.Transplant seedlings to plastic bags with garden soil alone and with various amendments such as sand, cow manure and compost. Transplanting time varies from 28 to 35 days after germination at 2-6 leaf stage. Root pruning could be done. Shade is required in the early stages of development as well as regular watering. Weeding is practiced as necessary. Seedlings could be attacked by leaf-eating insects and could be sprayed with Azodrin 202-R. Root rot could happen and could be treated with Malation/Thiodan. Hardening procedures involved reduced watering and gradual exposure to full sunlight 2 to 3 months before outplanting. Seedlings were ready for outplanting when they reached a height of 20 to 75 cm 5 months after transplanting.
