Outer bark dark brown or blackish, ridged to fissured; inner bark light brown
Leaves odd-pinnate, spirally arranged, often crowded at end of twigs, 50-80 cm long; leaflets 10-16 pairs, ovate-oblong to narrowly oblong, sometimes subfalcate, the basal ones smaller, base obtuse to oblique, apex acuminate to subcaudate, glossy dark green above, paler or golden brown beneath, margin wavy
Flowers are white, in axillary racemes to 50 cm long, arising from among the foliage.
Fruit a drupe, broadly ellipsoid, 2.5-4 cm long, obtuse at both ends, ripening yellow; seed ellipsoid compressed.

Transplant seedlings to pots with garden soil and various amendments such as sand, chicken manure and cow manure . Transplanting time -9 to 70 days after germination at 2-4 leaf stage. Root pruning and shoot pruning can be practiced. Provide shade early in the nursery; water regularly; weed as necessary. Hardening procedures involve reduced watering and gradual exposure to full sunlight 2 to 3 months before outplanting. Seedlings are ready for outplanting when they reached a height of 10 to 75 cm, or 3 to 10 months (R-6) after transplanting. Pest. Lepidopteran pest could be sprayed with Sumithion.

The timber is rather heavy, but only moderately durable. It is excellent for flooring due to its uniform dark red color, house construction, and furniture. The exudate (gum) is used in local medicine.
