Outer bark reddish-brown, smooth when young, scaly when mature
Leaves bipinnate, spiral, each pinna with 3-4 pairs of leaflets; petiole 5 cm or longer in larger leaves; leaflets subcoriaceoous, ovate or elliptic, 5-11 x 1.8-4.5 cm
Flowers are creamy white, oblong, 1.5-2 x 3-5 mm, in terminal or subterminal, panicles, up to 30 cm long.
Fruit a woody compressed pod, obovate-oblong, and slightly oblique, 10-18 x 3-4 cm, dehiscent, prominently reticulate-striate with some parallel veins along the sutures, the valves 1 mm thick; seeds 1-4, more or less orbicular, up to 5 cm in diameter.
